Take a journey to the 80′s with Amita – Janakya Mottainai
This SUPER☆GiRLS single covering older idol songs is likened (quite rightly) by AimXAim to Amuro Namie’s similar release a few years back, but the main draw for her is Maeshima Ami taking center stage with “Sentimental Journey”.

IU – Modern Times – Selective Hearing
IU is one of those artists I’m vaguely aware of but for the most part ignore. After reading TOZ’s well-balanced, subtly eloquent article – then watching the video of “The Red Shoes” – I was excited enough to buy a few tracks from iTunes. And I’m loving what I hear. So kudos to TOZ for the must-read (and must-watch) of the day.

I especially like the last part of this thread, though the “tributes” to other bad names was funny throughout.

Further proof that Aim came back at the right time, as she has a withering takedown of the new name and why it’s an exercise in futility.
Morning Musume is Dead. Love live Morning Musume! – the number 244
An equally eloquent, if not as aggressively impassioned, take on this rebrand, which is deemed as practically inconsequential and likely temporary.

Happy Disco on BiS! Janakya Mottainai on Momoiro Clover Z! And more!
Your Thoughts: Kohaku Uta Gassen 2013 – Happy Disco
Serenyty makes a good point about Morning Musume still doing Kohaku when they weren’t selling so great. That said, Kohaku has long had acts who may seem past their prime or aren’t as hot as they used to be, but still appear on the show. In Morning Musume’s case, they were very slow to catch on to its decline, and now as a result may be even slower to catch on to its recent ascent. And part of that may have also been the stagnant idol landscape until AKB hit it big – even in decline in the mid-2000s Momusu were still the biggest female idol act around.
Idol Thoughts: BiS – Avant Garde Idols? – Happy Disco
I enjoyed a great deal the comparisons she made between avant-garde film and this anti-idol idol group, it adds a useful perspective. Definitely worth a close read. (And I’ll comment on it some more in tomorrow’s Idol Thoughts.)
